The committee’s goal is to have four service projects throughout the year, which could include but is not limited to:
- Providing volunteers for the Cystic Fibrosis Walk along with having Arrowmen participate and raise funds to find a cure; this event is definite and will take place on the last weekend in April at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons
- Trail work along the Mountain-To-Sea-Trail in the warmer months of the year
- Sorting food at the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwestern North Carolina; this event could possibly include an Indian Affairs section at the end of the day in order to attract more Arrowmen
- Service projects along the Appalachian Trail near Boone or along the Blue Ridge Parkway in Watauga, Ashe, and Alleghany Counties in order to involve more Arrowmen from the chapters in the mountains
In addition to the above projects, there is a high probability of a project being scheduled between the Ordeal weekends and Fall Fellowship in order to obtain the involvement of more new Arrowmen, particularly those unable to attend Fall Fellowship. Communication between various chapters, officers, and committees of the lodge in a timely manner will be key in obtaining the involvement of Arrowmen. The committee would like more clarification on the role of the chairman in leading organized events (i.e. The Cystic Fibrosis Walk) as well as the role the Service Committee chairman will play in March Workday. Additionally, the committee would again like to stress the importance of communication in a timely manner in order to insure Arrowmen involvement in the Cystic Fibrosis Walk as volunteer staffers and participants; the committee requests the placement of a notice in the next Peace Pipe newsletter encouraging Arrowmen to serve as staff and participants in the walk (participant information would need to include how to conduct fundraising along with entry information).
The Service Committee looks forward to a great year as we serve the greater community through Brotherhood, Cheerfulness, and Service.
