National Order of the Arrow Conference 2015
Tuesday, August 11th, 2015 @ 11:30AM
On Sunday evening Wahissa Lodge set out on a long journey that would start a week filled with fun, laughter, and fellowship. After driving through the night and a rainstorm, the delegation from Wahissa Lodge arrived in East Lansing, MI for NOAC 2015. The week was action packed with classes, activities, and special shows and events to mark the 100th anniversary of our Order and the theme: ” It starts with us.” One could feel the presence of Dr. E. Urner Goodman and Caroll A. Edson as the spirit of brotherhood, cheerfulness, and service dispersed throughout the campus of Michigan State University. Our drum team, ceremony team, and dancers performed well in their respective competitions showing much Wahissa pride. During the Centennial Fire ceremony, Lodge Chief Hugh Atkinson and Achowelendam Chapter Chief Dylan Stoltzfus contributed wood from Northwest North Carolina to mingle with the ashes of other lodges.
The cool weather was a welcome relief from our own late summer heat and humidity. Bonds of brotherhood were created, renewed, and strengthened as the week continued. We also learned about “sparking” … don’t ask, because you wouldn’t understand. We departed NOAC at 5:00 on Saturday morning for the drive home. And though our bodies were tired from the long week, our spirits were more energized than ever having been a part of such a great event. And we must take that spirit back to our lodge, chapters, and troops to spark the Order of the Arrow for the next 100 years.
